The Mountain Countach

The small mountain town of Evergreen, ensconced in the hills/mountains of Colorado, has one of the coolest collections of beat-to-hell trucks and 4x4 bashers that I have ever had the pleasure of spotting. If you lived in the mountain where I was staying, 4-Wheel/All-Wheel drive was an absolute must, as the roads quickly turned from quality asphalt snakes to an amalgamation of dirt and gravel passes. We could hardly drive into town without seeing a dazzlingly mud-encrusted 60 Series Land Cruiser, a lifted K-10, or a splendid weather-beaten sixth-series F150. The only performance cars I would spot would be an infrequent aspirational rally hoonigan in a scuffed Audi or WRX sliding through the switchbacks, a plume of petulant dust marking his or her passage.

During one trip into town, I listlessly peered out the window at the beautiful scenery whizzing by. Lodge-style houses mounted high on hills dotted the landscape, driveways unpaved and steeply raked. The typical fare of old trucks and ‘80s muscle rested in the majority of these dirt driveways, until we came across a sharp bend in the road. Slowing down, I noticed something that was so jarringly out-of-place that I stuck my body nearly half way out of the host’s Highlander to snap a shot.

What the heck is a Lamborghini Countach replica doing in the unpaved mountains of a sleepy Colorado town? A Countach, replica or not, is hen’s teeth even in Dallas. I applaud the  owner’s brazen disregard of the mountainous surroundings. Also: Bonus points for the lifted El Camino. We need more eclectic people like this.
